According to OCD deputy spokesperson Diego Mariano, as of 6 a.m., four fatalities were recorded in Region 11, while 33 deaths occurred in Region 12, specifically in Sarangani (18), General Santos City (12), and South Cotabato (3).
State of Calamity and Infrastructure Damage
General Santos City has been placed under a State of Calamity due to the extensive damage caused by the earthquake. The quake brought down several structures and vital installations, and damaged bridges and roads, severely affecting the city's infrastructure.
Power Restoration Efforts
Energy Secretary Sharon Garin announced that electricity in the affected areas is nearly fully restored. “As of last update, 2 power plants have been fixed, transmission is partially restored, 4 private distribution utilities and 7 electric cooperatives are back online,” she stated. Garin emphasized the ongoing efforts to restore power safely: “We are working hard and fast to bring back electricity and we ask for patience and understanding. First, we assess and then we restore when it is safe.”

The earthquake struck at 7:37 a.m. on Monday, June 8, 2026, with its epicenter located approximately 32 kilometers south-southwest of Maasim, Sarangani, at a depth of 33 kilometers. The strong tremors were felt across large parts of Mindanao, prompting authorities to conduct rapid assessments of damage in affected areas. Rescue and relief operations continue as the region grapples with the aftermath of the disaster.
