A 30-year-old fisherman was fatally shot by an unidentified assailant on Tuesday evening, May 5, 2026, in Sitio Kawa, Barangay Captain Claudio, Toledo City.
The victim was identified as Elvin Lumangtad Halangdon, a fisherman from Barangay Matab-ang in the same city.
The Toledo City Police Station received a report about a lifeless body in the area. When police arrived, only bloodstains remained on the ground, as the victim had already been taken to Toledo City General Hospital. Halangdon was declared dead on arrival due to multiple gunshot wounds.
Initially, no resident of Sitio Kawa recognized the victim. On Wednesday morning, May 6, 2026, Halangdon's brother went to the police station to confirm his identity.
According to the victim's brother, Halangdon was involved in illegal drugs. This led police to believe that the motive for the crime was drug-related.
Initial investigation also revealed that before the shooting, the victim had an argument with someone over a drug debt that remained unpaid.
