The Lamitan City Government in Basilan will commence the distribution of free rice to eligible recipients on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, as part of a government assistance program designed to provide food support to families in the city.
Village-by-village rollout
Lamitan City Mayor Roderick Furigay announced that the distribution will follow a scheduled, village-by-village approach to ensure an orderly and efficient process. "Barangay Arco has been identified as the first village as the pilot area of free rice distribution," Furigay stated.
Residents must present valid proof that they are registered voters of their respective barangays to qualify for the program. Furigay explained that this requirement facilitates proper verification and ensures that assistance reaches eligible beneficiaries.
Funding and partnership
The free rice program is funded through the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) provided by the national government to Lamitan City. This reflects the continuing partnership between national and local governments in addressing community needs.
Mayor Furigay urged residents to bring the required documents and adhere to the schedule assigned to their village to ensure a smooth, orderly, and hassle-free distribution process.
