LTFRB Approves 141K PUVs for P10/Liter Fuel Subsidy

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has approved a total of 141,724 passenger jeepneys and UV Express units for the government's P10-per-liter fuel discount subsidy. According to LTFRB Chairman Vigor Mendoza II, this number covers all regions based on their database of qualified beneficiaries, with 12,688 already having registered successful transactions.

Government Support for PUV Sector

"This is proof that the government is still really taking care of the PUV sector despite the improvement of the prices of petroleum products," Mendoza said. The program is also set to be expanded to cover other public utility vehicles (PUVs). "This will not only benefit the drivers and operators but also the commuters as well," he added.

Nationwide Implementation

The fuel discount subsidy was initially launched at selected gasoline stations in Metro Manila in partnership with the Department of Energy (DOE), and is now being implemented nationwide across 4,299 participating gasoline stations, up from the original 50 stations in the National Capital Region. To date, the government has distributed over P13.3 million in discount subsidies.

Additional Subsidies

Aside from the P10-per-liter discount, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has also approved a P5,000 fuel subsidy for PUV drivers and operators, as well as a service contracting program to further assist passengers. Only PUVs with valid franchises are eligible; the fuel subsidy is limited to 150 liters per week per unit, and once the license plate is confirmed, the discount is automatically applied.
