A scavenger was arrested after allegedly stealing a motorcycle battery and other parts, claiming he thought they were already garbage. The incident occurred past 10:00 p.m. on May 24, 2026, in Nivel Hills, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City.
Suspect Identified
The suspect, alias Daryl, 29, a resident of Barangay Luz, is currently detained at the Mabolo Police Station. He is expected to face theft charges.
Arrest and Investigation
According to police investigation, Daryl was caught through a citizen's arrest after being caught in the act of taking the items. When questioned, the suspect argued that he believed the battery and other parts were no longer usable because they were already detached, prompting him to include them in his scavenging haul.
He stated that when a guard confronted him, he intended to return the items but was still accused of theft.
However, police discovered that this is the third time the suspect has been imprisoned for a similar case.
