The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has announced a reduction in transmission charges for the May 2026 billing period, which will be reflected in consumers' June electricity bills. The overall average transmission rate decreased by 9.33 percent, from ₱1.5983 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) in April to ₱1.4492 per kWh in May.
Reasons for the Decline
The decline is attributed to lower transmission wheeling charges and reduced ancillary service (AS) rates. Transmission wheeling charges, which NGCP collects for delivering electricity through the national grid, dropped by 6.99 percent from ₱0.6028 per kWh in April to ₱0.5607 per kWh in May. Ancillary service rates, essential for maintaining grid stability and reliability, decreased by 10.73 percent from ₱0.8088 per kWh to ₱0.7220 per kWh.
Impact on Consumers
NGCP stated that its charges for June 2026 amount to only 56 centavos per kWh for delivery services. The grid operator emphasized that its revenues are regulated by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) and capped to ensure reasonable charges. While the reduction provides some relief, the overall impact on electricity bills depends on other components such as generation, distribution, taxes, and universal charges.
In Davao City, Davao Light and Power Company has yet to release its official June 2026 rate adjustment. Consumers are awaiting the announcement to determine the full effect of the lower transmission charges on their monthly bills.
