P1.8M DAR Truck Boosts Zamboanga Sibugay Farmers

The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has delivered a significant productivity boost to farmers in Zamboanga Sibugay with the turnover of a brand-new six-wheeler truck valued at P1.8 million.

Key Asset for Barangay Sto. Niño Farmers

This substantial investment was formally handed over to the Barangay Sto. Niño Farmers Agrarian Cooperative (Basfarco) in the municipality of Alicia on Thursday, January 8, 2026. The cooperative's chairperson, Gilbert Borja, accepted the vehicle on behalf of its members, expressing their collective gratitude for the government's support.

A Tool for Growth and Shared Responsibility

During the turnover ceremony, Romulus Perez, the chief agrarian reform program officer for Zamboanga Sibugay, emphasized the cooperative's duty. He reminded the officers and members of Basfarco about their shared responsibility in the proper management and maintenance of the vehicle to ensure its longevity and maximum benefit.

The provision of this hauling truck is a strategic move designed to strengthen the cooperative's transport and marketing capabilities. With improved logistics, Basfarco can more efficiently move their agricultural products to market, which is expected to directly lead to enhanced productivity and increased income for its agrarian reform beneficiary members.

Second Cooperative to Benefit This Year

Basfarco marks the second agrarian reform cooperative in Zamboanga Sibugay to receive such vital assistance from DAR in the early days of 2026. The first recipient was the Timbabauan Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Multi-Purpose Cooperative (Timarbemco) in Tungawan, which received its own hauling truck just a day earlier, on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.

These consecutive turnovers underscore DAR's ongoing commitment to equipping farmer organizations in the province with the tangible assets they need to thrive, fostering greater economic resilience and progress within the agricultural sector.
