A 25-year-old construction worker died from electrocution on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 12:02 p.m. in Sityo Cornerian, Barangay Cogon, Compostela town. The victim was identified as Rhenell Andogan Daclan, a resident of Sityo Liberty, Barangay Quiot, Cebu City.
Incident Details
According to the Compostela Municipal Police Station, they received a phone call from a guard at Danao City District Hospital reporting that a man had died from electrocution. Police immediately responded to the scene and gathered statements from six fellow construction workers who witnessed the incident.
Witnesses said that during their lunch break in a bunkhouse, the victim took an extension wire to operate a ceiling fan while barefoot. When he stepped on a metal surface and touched the wire, it came into contact with a frayed portion, causing him to convulse. Due to the strong electric current, the victim lost consciousness and suffered burns on his body.
Response and Aftermath
His co-workers immediately switched off the circuit breaker and rushed him to Danao City District Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The police are investigating the incident.
