SSS Enhances Financial Access Through Rural Bank Partnership for MySSS Card

The Social Security System (SSS) has taken a significant step toward expanding financial inclusion by announcing that its MySSS Card will soon be accessible to members in unbanked regions. This initiative follows a partnership with EastWest Rural Bank (EWRB), which has become the first rural bank authorized to issue the card, aiming to serve underserved communities across the Philippines.

Memorandum of Agreement Signing and Key Objectives

SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Robert Joseph M. de Claro and EWRB President Shiela Marasigan-Bajado recently led the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement. This agreement authorizes EWRB to issue MySSS Cards, with a primary focus on members in rural areas, while also making the card available to qualified individuals nationwide. De Claro emphasized that this partnership is a crucial project designed to simplify the enrollment process for disbursement accounts and improve overall convenience for SSS members.

Dual Functionality and Digital Payment Features

The MySSS Card serves a dual purpose as both an official SSS identification and a debit card. De Claro highlighted that this functionality allows SSS to provide digital payment facilities for registrants, members, pensioners, and beneficiaries. By leveraging the National ID database for verification, the SSS ensures secure card issuance through its partner bank and accurate benefit disbursement via linked accounts. This system also enables members to manage daily financial transactions with greater ease and efficiency.

Streamlined Application Process and Nationwide Availability

Bajado announced that a streamlined application process for the MySSS Card will be introduced at EWRB's 112 branches and branch-lites across the country this year. Most of these locations are situated in provinces, particularly in Mindanao and the Visayas, targeting areas with limited banking access. Additionally, the card may be offered at Cross-Selling Desks within EastWest Bank branches through digital channels, further enhancing accessibility.

Financial Benefits and Account Features

To support financial growth for cardholders, EWRB will waive maintaining balance requirements for MySSS accounts. Cardholders can also earn interest once their balance reaches at least ₱500, encouraging savings while enjoying flexible account features. This approach aims to help members build their financial resources in a user-friendly manner.

Longstanding Collaboration and Future Goals

De Claro noted that the SSS has maintained a decade-long collaboration with EWRB, which began in 2017 when the bank was recognized as the Best Collecting and Best Paying Partner in the rural category of the SSS Balikat ng Bayan Awards. He expressed hope that this ongoing partnership will enable SSS to better serve members regardless of their location, reinforcing the commitment to financial inclusion and community support.
