The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) – Mandaue City Field Unit, in coordination with the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 and the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), conducted a raid on a gadget store in Cebu City on May 19, 2026, for selling laptops without the required licenses and certifications.
Operation Details
Dubbed “Oplan Mega Shopper,” the operation took place at around 12:44 PM at Gironda, an electronic products store located at the Luym Building on Plaridel Street, Barangay Sto. Niño, Cebu City. The operation is part of the CIDG’s flagship program against the sale of products without government agency authorization.
Arrests Made
Two individuals were arrested during the entrapment operation: alias Haradel, 35, a resident of Manalili Street, Victoria Building, Cebu City, who was the target of the operation; and alias Frexi, 32, from Upper Lucimba, Barangay Pardo.
Prior to the raid, the CIDG-Mandaue City Field Unit received a complaint regarding the store on Plaridel Street, alleging that it was selling laptops without displaying the necessary permits. In response, the CIDG immediately launched validation and surveillance. After confirming the complaint, they coordinated with the Regional Special Operations Group (RSOG) 7, Regional Intelligence Unit (RIU) 7, Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), and the NTC for the entrapment.
A police officer posed as a customer intending to buy a laptop. Once the suspects handed over the product, the arresting team moved in.
Seized Items
Inside the store, authorities seized 168 laptops of various brands, all lacking conformity markings, required certifications, permits, and approvals from the NTC that would prove the legality of their business.
