P11M Fake Cigarettes Seized in Cebu Raid

In a major blow to illicit trade operations, authorities have seized approximately P11 million worth of counterfeit cigarettes during a targeted raid in Cebu City. The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) executed a successful operation that uncovered a significant counterfeit cigarette distribution network.

The raid, conducted in Barangay Mabolo, resulted in the confiscation of thousands of fake cigarette packs bearing popular brand names. Four individuals are now in custody following the operation that targeted what authorities describe as a sophisticated counterfeit operation.

According to CIDG officials, the seized items included:

  • Counterfeit cigarettes with an estimated market value of P11 million
  • Various fake tobacco products mimicking legitimate brands
  • Packaging materials used in the illegal operation

"This operation significantly disrupts the flow of counterfeit tobacco products in the region," stated a CIDG representative. "We're committed to protecting consumers from potentially harmful counterfeit goods and ensuring legitimate businesses aren't undermined by illegal operations."

The suspects now face multiple charges related to intellectual property infringement and violation of tobacco regulations. Authorities emphasize that counterfeit cigarettes often bypass health and safety standards, posing unknown risks to consumers.

This seizure represents one of the largest cigarette counterfeit busts in Central Visayas this year, highlighting the ongoing battle against illicit tobacco trade in the Philippines.
