Quezon City Nano-Entrepreneurs Gain Financial Wisdom from Chinkee Tan

More than 200 nano-entrepreneurs from Quezon City recently experienced an engaging and educational session with Pambansang Wealth Coach Chinkee Tan, who shared invaluable tips on starting, growing, and effectively managing a business. The event, held at the Amoranto Sports Complex, marked a positive start to 2026 for small-scale business owners in the area.

Learning Session on Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurship

The activity, titled "Ayusin ang Pera, Palaguin ang Negosyo", was a collaborative effort between the Quezon City Small Business and Cooperatives Development Promotions Office (QC-SBCDPO) and BDO Foundation. Chinkee Tan facilitated the session with his signature blend of wit, humor, and practical advice, making complex financial concepts accessible and enjoyable for attendees.

Participants, including sari-sari store owners, market vendors, and other self-employed individuals with minimal capital, gained essential skills, mindset shifts, and attitudes necessary to thrive in their entrepreneurial journeys. Tan drew from personal experiences and challenges to provide relatable and actionable insights.

Support from Local Government and BDO Foundation

Mona Celine Marie V. Yap, City Government Department Head III of QC-SBCDPO, highlighted that similar capacity-building activities are available at no cost to Quezon City small business owners through partnerships with various organizations. "Katulad po ng mga ganitong pa-event, yung mga financial literacy, marami po tayong training that you can avail. Mayroon po tayong free trainings given by our partners," she stated.

In a message of support, BDO Foundation President Mario A. Deriquito emphasized the importance of financial knowledge: "Sa BDO Foundation, naniniwala kami na kapag may tamang kaalaman sa pera at negosyo, mas nagiging handa ang isang negosyante na magdesisyon nang maayos at magplano para sa kinabukasan." This event underscores the foundation's commitment to advancing financial inclusion and empowering entrepreneurs.

Encouraging Business Registration and Future Opportunities

Aside from the learning session, participants were briefed on the Nano-Enterprise Registration Program of the Quezon City Government. The briefing aimed to encourage nano-enterprise owners to register their businesses with the local government, informing them that registered entities may avail of tax and registration fee exemptions under existing local ordinances.

The event was also attended by Quezon City District 1 Councilor Charm M. Ferrer, who delivered a message of support as Chairperson of the Committee on Micro, Small, and Medium Business Entrepreneurship Development and Cooperatives. Through this collaboration, BDO Foundation continues to empower business owners with the knowledge and confidence needed for better planning and decision-making in their futures.
