DOT-BCDA Partnership to Boost Sports Tourism in New Clark City

The Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) have officially entered into a strategic partnership aimed at significantly enhancing sports tourism in New Clark City and its surrounding regions. This collaboration was formalized through a memorandum of agreement signed by Tourism Secretary Cristina Frasco and BCDA President Joshua Bingcang, marking a pivotal step toward leveraging the area's world-class sports facilities for broader economic and tourism growth.

Leveraging Marketing and Global Networks

Under this new agreement, the BCDA will gain access to the DOT's integrated marketing capabilities and extensive global network. This will enable the BCDA to effectively promote its sports facilities and destinations on an international scale, attracting more visitors and events to the region. The partnership is designed to capitalize on New Clark City's proven track record of hosting major sporting events, such as the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, and its modern infrastructure.

Economic and Tourism Development Goals

The initiative is expected to facilitate the staging of both local and international sporting events and activities in New Clark City. By doing so, it aims to boost tourism growth while simultaneously spurring broader economic development in Tarlac and neighboring communities. Tourism Secretary Cristina Frasco emphasized the potential of this partnership, stating, "The areas under BCDA's stewardship present significant opportunities for tourism growth. New Clark City, in particular, has demonstrated its capacity to host major sporting events successfully."

She further added, "With its modern sports facilities and integrated development, New Clark City is well positioned to strengthen the Philippines' role in the global sports tourism landscape. This partnership will not only enhance our country's visibility but also create jobs and stimulate local economies." The BCDA Group, responsible for managing these facilities, will work closely with the DOT to implement marketing strategies and event planning that align with national tourism objectives.

This move is part of a larger effort to position the Philippines as a premier destination for sports enthusiasts and international competitions. By combining the DOT's promotional expertise with the BCDA's infrastructure management, the partnership aims to attract a diverse range of events, from athletics and swimming to other sports that can utilize the state-of-the-art venues in New Clark City.
