Honoring a Local Hero: Justice Delfin J. Jaranilla
The center is named in honor of Justice Delfin J. Jaranilla, a distinguished figure born in La Paz. His life and career reflect a legacy of resilience and public service:
- He earned a Civil Law degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., before starting his legal practice in Iloilo City as a law clerk at the Court of First Instance.
- Jaranilla's career progressed through various government positions, showcasing his dedication to justice and administration.
- During World War II, he was caught in the Battle of Bataan, endured captivity as a prisoner of war, and survived the harrowing Bataan Death March.
- After the war, he contributed to international justice by serving in the Tokyo Trials, before retiring from public office.
- Justice Jaranilla passed away on June 4, 1980, at the age of 96, leaving behind a lasting impact on Philippine history.
