Tesda Launches Free Assessment Program for Over 260,000 Senior High School Graduates
The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) has announced a significant initiative to support the career readiness of more than 260,000 graduating senior high school students enrolled in the technical-vocational-livelihood (SHS-TVL) track. This program will offer free assessments, allowing these students to earn National Certificates (NCs) that formally validate their skills and enhance their employability.
Boosting Employment and Entrepreneurship Opportunities
In a recent statement, Tesda Director General Jose Francisco Benitez emphasized the agency's commitment to helping graduates acquire nationally recognized skills. "We are helping graduates acquire nationally recognized skills that increase their chances of gainful employment or entrepreneurship," Benitez said. He highlighted that by removing the cost barrier for assessments, Tesda is making it easier for learners to become job-ready and competitive in the workforce.
Graduates who successfully pass the assessment can achieve National Certification Levels 1, 2, 3, or 4. These certifications serve as official proof of competence and are widely accepted by employers, providing a tangible advantage in accessing job opportunities. "By obtaining National Certificates, SHS-TVL graduates gain official recognition of their technical competencies, and making the assessments free-of-charge removes a barrier for learners in becoming job-ready," Benitez added.
Application Process and Requirements
To participate in the free assessment program, interested individuals must follow a straightforward application process. They can seek endorsement from their school principals or register directly at the nearest Tesda provincial or regional offices. Applicants are required to bring specific documents, including:
- A document bearing their Learner Reference Number, such as Form 137, a diploma, or a report card.
- A duly accomplished Assessment Application Form.
- A completed Self-Assessment Guide.
- Three passport-size ID pictures.
This streamlined approach aims to facilitate easy access for all eligible students, ensuring that no one is left behind due to procedural complexities.
Historical Success and Future Impact
Since 2024, Tesda's records indicate a strong track record in assessing SHS-TVL graduates. A total of 308,391 graduates have undergone assessments, with an impressive certification rate of 86.4 percent. This historical data underscores the effectiveness of such programs in equipping students with valuable credentials.
