Angeles Hospital Expands Maternal Child Health Services

The Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center (RLMMC) in Angeles City is expanding its maternal and child health services, with a renewed focus on breastfeeding, maternal nutrition, and infant and young child feeding (IYCF).

Program Objectives

The initiative supports the Mother-Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (MBFHI) and aims to improve health outcomes while encouraging active participation from mothers and families in health programs.

Educational Sessions

RLMMC conducts regular lectures and counseling sessions at its OB Out-Patient Department and OB Ward. Topics covered include maternal nutrition, breastfeeding techniques, IYCF practices, and proper attachment and latching. Additionally, antenatal “Mother’s Class” sessions are held to prepare expectant mothers for childbirth and early parenting.

Immediate Postnatal Care

During childbirth, the hospital promotes immediate skin-to-skin contact, known as “Unang Yakap,” to support early breastfeeding initiation and bonding.

Postpartum Support

Postpartum care includes continued counseling and health education on newborn care and appropriate supplementation, such as Vitamin A administration.

Community Coordination

The hospital coordinates with barangay health centers to ensure continuous support for mothers after discharge. A dedicated breastfeeding station is available for mothers who need a private space to nurse or express milk.
