Cebu Suspends All Barangay Liga Events Amid National Energy Emergency
Cebu Suspends Barangay Liga Events in Energy Crisis

In response to the ongoing national energy crisis, Cebu Provincial Board Member Celestino "Tining" Martinez III, who also serves as the Association of Barangay Council (ABC) President and ex-officio member, has announced the suspension of all Liga events across barangays. This directive includes seminars and other activities, aligning with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s declaration of a State of Energy Emergency on March 25, 2026.

Immediate Measures for Energy Conservation

Martinez has ordered all members of the Liga Cebu Provincial Chapters to take immediate steps to reduce electricity and fuel consumption. While in-person gatherings are halted, meetings can still proceed but must be conducted through online platforms. Martinez emphasized, "In the meantime, all meetings and gatherings should be conducted through online platforms, in accordance with Executive Order No. 114 issued by the President."

Simplified Celebrations and Extended Work Hours

For traditional celebrations and festivals, Martinez has mandated that they be observed in the simplest manner possible. This approach requires frugality not only in financial expenditures but also in energy usage. Additionally, since March, the provincial government of Cebu has implemented a four-day workweek, with operating hours extended from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM as part of energy-saving measures.
