The state weather bureau has warned that five provinces in the MIMAROPA region and the Kalayaan Island Group (KIG) are among 47 areas nationwide likely to experience dry conditions by November 2026.
Provinces at Risk
In its seasonal climate outlook, the bureau identified Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and the Kalayaan Island Group in Palawan as areas expected to receive below-normal rainfall in the latter part of the year. According to the weather bureau, dry conditions are defined as a 21% to 60% reduction in rainfall over two consecutive months.
Impact and Comparison
While these conditions do not yet constitute a drought, they could still affect water supply and agriculture if not addressed promptly. In contrast, Camarines Sur faces a more severe situation, potentially experiencing a dry spell—defined as a rainfall deficit exceeding 60% over two months. The agency clarified that no area in the country is expected to reach drought level as of now.
Call for Preparedness
The weather bureau urged local governments and relevant sectors to prepare and monitor updates to mitigate the impact on water resources and food production.
