Cebu Reels as Typhoon Tino Death Toll Climbs to 144

The death toll from the devastating impact of Typhoon Tino in Cebu has risen to 144, according to the latest reports from ongoing search and retrieval operations across the province. The scale of the tragedy became clearer as local governments provided updated casualty figures on Friday, November 7, 2025.

Breakdown of Casualties and Affected Areas

The Cebu Province alone recorded 113 deaths, with the municipality of Liloan suffering the heaviest loss at 39 fatalities. It was closely followed by Compostela with 31 deaths, and Mandaue City with 14. Other significant casualties were reported in Balamban (11), Danao City (9), and Talisay City (7). The Provincial Government also reported 311 injured individuals and 67 people still missing.

In a clarifying detail, the Mandaue City Government confirmed that out of the 14 fatalities initially reported within its jurisdiction, 12 were residents of neighboring Cebu City, while two individuals have yet to be identified.

Data from the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) painted a broader picture of the typhoon's impact, revealing that 9,193 families, or 34,668 individuals, across 80 barangays were affected. Cebu City authorities confirmed 31 fatalities and seven persons still missing within the city.

Government Response and Pledges of Assistance

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. visited Cebu on Friday to assess the damage firsthand and assure residents of continued government support. He emphasized the distribution of food and clean water as a top priority.

The President announced that assessment teams have begun validating the extent of damage to homes. He outlined the financial assistance for affected families: P5,000 for those with partially damaged houses and P10,000 for those whose homes were totally destroyed.

President Marcos also issued a warning, urging local chief executives to prepare for another potential weather disturbance being monitored by the state weather bureau, Pagasa.

Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian reported that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has already distributed 64,000 family food packs to the hardest-hit localities.

In a significant financial commitment, the President pledged P50 million in assistance for the Province of Cebu. Additionally, he allocated P10 million each for Talisay City, Mandaue City, and Compostela.

Echoing the national government's efforts, the Cebu Provincial Government, under Governor Pamela Baricuatro, has allocated P2 million each to the local governments of Danao City, Compostela, Liloan, Consolacion, Mandaue, Talisay, and Minglanilla.

Relief operations remain in full swing as provincial and city governments continue to appeal for and accept donations of food, water, and clothing for the survivors of Typhoon Tino.
