Celebrity Voices Concern Over Cebu's Natural Disasters
Television host and actress Kim Chiu, who hails from Cebu, has publicly expressed her distress regarding the extensive flooding that struck her home province following Typhoon Tino's landfall in the Visayas region. The celebrity shared her concerns in an interview with ABS-CBN News on November 8, 2025.
Appeal for Government Action
While confirming that her immediate area avoided the worst of the flooding, Chiu voiced alarm at the scale of destruction witnessed across Cebu. "I hope those in charge will do everything necessary so this doesn't happen again," she stated emphatically during the interview.
The Cebu-native actress highlighted the unprecedented nature of the disaster, noting that "this is the first time we've seen floods this severe in Cebu." Her comments included a pointed question directed at authorities: "So, who should we blame now?"
Chiu made a direct appeal to concerned government officials to address what she described as a worsening problem that requires immediate attention and sustainable solutions.
Recent Earthquake Experience
The flooding disaster comes shortly after another natural event shook the region. Chiu recalled the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck northern Cebu the previous month, sharing details about the anxiety it caused among her colleagues.
Although all cast and crew members from her current project remained safe, the continuous aftershocks created significant stress. "It was nerve-wracking," Chiu described. "We all stayed in the hotel. Every time there was an aftershock, everyone — Ms. Zsa Zsa, Sir John, all of us — would grab our bags and rush downstairs."
The back-to-back natural disasters have highlighted the vulnerability of the Visayas region to environmental emergencies, with prominent voices like Kim Chiu joining the call for improved disaster preparedness and response measures.
