British Man Wants Jail to Befriend Inmates

A British national who initially sought police assistance after falling victim to a crime ended up wanting to be imprisoned instead. The incident occurred at the Abellana Police Station in Cebu on Thursday morning, June 18, 2026.

The foreigner, identified only as "Diego," 38, is a native of England. According to the police, Diego approached the station to report the loss of his cellphone, which contained important documents.

However, the situation took an unexpected turn when he turned around and engaged in conversation with inmates inside the temporary detention cell. Police said the foreigner suddenly became inspired and requested to be placed inside the cell, even for just one hour, because he had already befriended the prisoners.

Diego explained that he wanted to meet and encourage the inmates. He wanted to make them feel that despite facing charges, he still believed they were not bad people and still had a chance to change their lives.

Instead of jailing him, the police attended to him and advised him to rest first. Authorities noted that the foreigner had been drinking.
