The national soccer team of Iran has decided to stay in Mexico and will only travel to the United States when they are scheduled to play in the World Cup. This move follows the US denial of accommodation for the Iranian team during the tournament.
Mexico's Agreement to Host Iran
According to Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, FIFA approached her government and requested that Mexico host the Iranian team from June 11 to July 19. She added that there was no reason to reject the team. The Mexican government agreed to provide shelter and facilities for the Iranian squad during their stay.
Iran's World Cup Schedule
- June 15: Iran vs. New Zealand in Los Angeles
- June 21: Iran vs. Belgium in Los Angeles
- June 26: Iran vs. Egypt in Seattle
The decision comes after the US government denied the Iranian team's request to stay in the country during the World Cup. Iran will now base themselves in Mexico, traveling to the US only for their matches.
