Jimmy Alapag has expressed his readiness to accept a potential obligation to help Gilas Pilipinas in the near future, now that he has returned to the Philippines after six years with the Sacramento Kings in the NBA.
Alapag's Previous Offers and NBA Commitment
According to Alapag, even while he was working as a member of the coaching staff for the Sacramento Kings, he had already received offers from Gilas officials. However, he simply did not have the time to take on additional responsibilities due to his NBA commitments.
Return to the Philippines Opens New Opportunities
Now that he is back in the Philippines, it is possible for Alapag to help Gilas. He hopes to join the team during the second round of the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers in August 2026. The qualifiers are crucial for the national team's bid to secure a spot in the World Cup.
Current Focus on NLEX Road Warriors
For the time being, Alapag is focused on his new role as the head coach of the NLEX Road Warriors in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). He took over the coaching reins recently and is committed to leading the team in the upcoming conference.
