Four people were killed and several others injured in Israeli drone strikes targeting Mayfadoun in southern Lebanon on Tuesday afternoon, according to a preliminary count reported by the Lebanese government-run National News Agency (NNA).
Escalation in Nabatieh
The Israeli attacks intensified in the Nabatieh area, where a drone first struck a vehicle in Mayfadoun before attacking the same location again after residents gathered at the site. A second vehicle was also targeted in the same area. The attacks in Mayfadoun resulted in the deaths of four people and injuries to other individuals, according to the NNA.
Civil defense teams from the Islamic Health Society, the Islamic Risala Scout Association, and the Lebanese Red Cross worked together to evacuate the dead and wounded from the targeted areas.
Ceasefire Deal and Tensions
Iran and the United States finalized a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on peace on Sunday, which is also expected to end the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at a press conference on Monday that the Israeli military would remain in the "security zones" it controls in Lebanon, Syria, and the Gaza Strip as long as necessary.
On the other hand, Iran warned on Tuesday that if Israel does not stop its attacks on southern Lebanon, it will face a "fierce" retaliation from Iran's armed forces. In an official statement, Iran's main military command, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said that since U.S. President Donald Trump announced the end of the war, the Israeli army has violated the ceasefire in southern Lebanon more than 84 times and continues its "crimes of killing the oppressed Lebanese people."
