Kuwait announced that its air-defense systems intercepted a missile and a drone on Thursday, May 28, 2026, but provided no further details about the intended target of the missile. The incident comes after Iran stated it had retaliated earlier in the week by firing at a US military base located in an unnamed Gulf country.
Kuwait Condemns Iran
The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry condemned Iran for what it described as a “clear aggression.” Meanwhile, the U.S. Central Command characterized the attack against one of America’s allies in the Persian Gulf as a “ceasefire violation.” Kuwait has previously been a target of attacks by Iran and Iraqi Shiite militias before the ceasefire began in April.
Ceasefire Status
U.S. Vice President JD Vance commented that “ceasefires are always a little messy” but emphasized that it is “very much holding.” The interception marks a significant test for the fragile truce in the region.
