Bacolod City Launches HIV/AIDS Online Platform and School Campaign

The City Government of Bacolod has officially launched the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) Online Platform Services, coupled with a comprehensive School-Based Educational Campaign across the city. This initiative aims to enhance public awareness and facilitate better access to essential health services for Bacolodnons affected by HIV/AIDS.

Mayor Gasataya Highlights Program Goals

Mayor Greg Gasataya emphasized that the program is designed to raise awareness and strengthen access to health services for residents living with HIV/AIDS. He stated, "Once fully operational, our online platform will provide Bacolodnons with convenient access to city health services such as medical assistance, free testing, and counseling, with assurance of full confidentiality—all just a tap away on a smartphone."

Expanding Awareness Efforts

Since July 2025, the city has been actively implementing HIV/AIDS awareness programs in various educational institutions and workplaces. These efforts include:

  • Public high schools
  • Private schools
  • Various private companies

This ensures that accurate and vital information reaches every corner of the community, helping to dispel myths and reduce stigma associated with the disease.

Addressing Local HIV Statistics

Mayor Gasataya revealed that Bacolod City recorded 1,312 HIV cases as of late 2025, ranking it 22nd among more than 140 local government units nationwide. He stressed that behind these numbers are real individuals—sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, friends, and loved ones—who often struggle in silence due to societal stigma.

A Call for Compassion and Support

The mayor issued a heartfelt appeal to the community, saying, "If you are living with HIV/AIDS, know that you have an entire city that supports you. Let's break the stigma and spread kindness and compassion." This message underscores the city's commitment to fostering a supportive environment for all affected residents.

The launch of these services marks a significant step forward in Bacolod's public health strategy, leveraging technology and education to combat HIV/AIDS effectively.
