What religious act do we perform when we recite the Apostles' Creed? When we recite the Apostles' Creed, we perform the act of faith [act of faith].

1. Christian Faith as a Divine Gift

Christian faith is a heavenly gift from God, which gives us the ability to firmly believe in whatever God has revealed, through the testimony of His word. Through this, we believe in the truth of things that are beyond our comprehension. For example, we believe in God, even though we do not [and cannot] see Him. We believe in the Triune God, even though this surpasses our understanding. "Without faith, it is impossible to please God" (Heb. 11:6).

2. Faith and Reason

Faith does not require us to believe anything that is contrary to reason. When we believe in what we cannot see or understand, we act according to reason, which tells us that God cannot err, lie, or deceive us. Therefore, we place our trust in the word of God. In many natural things, we often believe in what we cannot see, such as sound waves and atoms, based on the testimony of scientists who study them. Thus, we act within reason; but how much more reasonable it is to believe in the word of God! (To be continued)
