The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) successfully launched its cash relief initiative on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, providing immediate financial support to thousands of tricycle operators and drivers across Central Luzon. On the first day of distribution alone, a total of 18,142 members from various Tricycle Operators and Drivers Associations (TODA) in Region 3 received cash assistance, marking a significant step in alleviating the burden of escalating fuel prices.
Massive Payout Across Multiple Cities
The payout operation covered a wide array of urban centers in Central Luzon, ensuring broad accessibility for beneficiaries. Key cities included Baliwag, Malolos, Gapan, Cabanatuan, San Jose, Olongapo, Angeles, Mabalacat, and San Fernando. Each eligible driver was granted P5,000 in cash aid under the DSWD's Assistance in Crisis Situation program, a targeted effort designed to help individuals navigate economic hardships.
Financial Impact and Beneficiary Coverage
Data released by the DSWD reveals that the first-day distribution amounted to an impressive P90,710,000 in total financial assistance. This initial batch of beneficiaries represents 72.3% of the region's total target of 25,086 drivers, indicating a robust outreach effort. The Cash Relief Assistance (CRA) program is specifically tailored to assist drivers in coping with the persistent rise in fuel costs, which has strained household budgets and operational expenses.
Addressing Distribution Challenges
Despite the successful rollout, the DSWD acknowledged that some drivers were unable to receive their aid due to various technical issues. Common problems included discrepancies in submitted names, expired licenses, or failure to attend the scheduled payout events. To mitigate these challenges, local government units have proactively set up help desks to assist drivers in correcting documentation errors and resolving eligibility concerns.
Furthermore, the agency is arranging special payout schedules for those who missed the initial distribution, ensuring that no qualified beneficiary is left behind. The DSWD has provided firm assurances that all eligible individuals will eventually receive the government assistance, emphasizing its commitment to comprehensive support.
This initiative underscores the government's responsive approach to economic pressures faced by essential transport workers, with ongoing efforts to streamline processes and maximize aid delivery across Central Luzon.
