One person died and three others were injured after unidentified gunmen riding a car and a motorcycle opened fire on a house in Barangay Capio-an, Argao, Cebu, on the evening of June 30, 2026. The attack occurred at approximately 9:25 p.m. in Purok Tambis, a mountainous area of the town.
Victims Identified
The fatality was identified as Rocky Bernabe Celada, 36, a resident of the area. He died instantly from multiple gunshot wounds. The injured victims were Edsel Campaner, Anselmo Canitan, and Anderson Padillo, all also residents of the same barangay. Campaner and Canitan were rushed to Isidro Kintanar Memorial Hospital for treatment, while Padillo managed to flee the scene to save himself.
Details of the Attack
According to the initial investigation by the Argao Municipal Police Station, the victims were seated in the living room when a dark gray vehicle and a motorcycle suddenly arrived. Without warning, the suspects sprayed the house with bullets, killing Celada on the spot.
Police Investigation and Motive
Police are still conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. One of the primary motives being considered is the victim's alleged involvement in illegal drugs. Authorities revealed that Celada had a prior prison record and was known in the barangay for confronting individuals engaged in drug peddling, a stance he developed due to the hardships he experienced in prison. Relatives of the victim also believe that the shooting was drug-related.
