The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has officially launched a new, state-of-the-art command center, marking a significant upgrade in its operational capabilities just in time for major upcoming events.
A Swift 21-Day Construction for Enhanced Security
In a remarkable feat, the command center was constructed in a mere 21 days. It is strategically located on the rooftop of the CCPO headquarters at Camp Sotero Cabahug on Gorordo Avenue. The facility's rapid completion was made possible through the support of various stakeholders and the Cebu City Advisory Council, overcoming previous funding shortages that stalled the project initiated under former Police Colonel Enrico Figueroa.
Central Hub for Police Operations and Monitoring
This new center serves as the central nervous system for police operations in Cebu City. Its primary function is to monitor all government CCTV cameras across the city. From this hub, authorities can command, control, coordinate, and communicate with police units on the ground more effectively. It will also be the source of critical information relayed to Camp Crame, including data for command conferences called by the Philippine National Police chief.
The inauguration on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, was led by key officials including Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, Director of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7, Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival, and CCPO Chief Colonel George Ylanan.
Preparing for Sinulog and the ASEAN Summit
General Maranan emphasized the center's crucial role in securing major events scheduled for 2026. The Sinulog Festival in January 2026 and the ASEAN Summit are two of the high-profile activities where the command center's capabilities will be fully utilized to ensure public safety and order.
To demonstrate its efficiency, a live test was conducted during the opening. Police responded to a simulated alarm about an armed person at the Cebu City Sports Center, with units arriving at the scene in under two minutes.
Mayor Archival pledged his administration's full support to the police force, specifically promising to provide a robust internet connection for the center that will remain functional even during power outages or telecommunication signal losses. Furthermore, the CCPO's mobility will be enhanced as Camp Crame is set to deploy 47 new vehicles for the ASEAN Summit, with 20 of those units allocated specifically for the Cebu City Police Office.
