Police to Implement Strict Gun Ban During 30th Panaad sa Negros Festival

In a move aimed at bolstering public safety, the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) has announced a comprehensive gun ban scheduled for Bacolod City from April 13 to 19, 2026. This measure coincides with the celebration of the 30th Panaad sa Negros Festival, a major cultural event expected to draw thousands of visitors and participants to the region.

Details of the Firearm Permit Suspension

Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, chief of the PRO-NIR Public Information Office, confirmed that the suspension of firearm permits will be strictly enforced throughout Bacolod City. The ban is set to take effect at 12:01 a.m. on April 13 and will remain in force until 11:59 p.m. on April 19, covering the entire duration of the festival. Only members of the Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, and other law enforcement agencies in official uniforms performing duties will be exempted from this restriction.

Malong emphasized the importance of public cooperation, stating, "We encourage the public to cooperate and strictly adhere to this directive as we work together in maintaining peace and order throughout the festivities." The festival will be held at Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City, a venue that requires heightened security due to the large crowds anticipated.

Enhanced Security Measures and Personnel Deployment

To ensure a safe and orderly event, Colonel Eugene Rebadomia, officer-in-charge of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), revealed plans to deploy at least 100 personnel in Barangay Mansilingan. These officers will be tasked with managing traffic and security outside the festival site, while the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) will handle security within Panaad Park and Stadium.

Rebadomia added, "Let us all enjoy the festival responsibly and safely," underscoring the collaborative effort between law enforcement and the community. The gun ban is part of a broader strategy to prevent incidents and allow attendees to focus on the cultural celebrations without concerns over firearm-related risks.

This proactive approach by PRO-NIR highlights the region's commitment to safeguarding public events, particularly as the Panaad sa Negros Festival marks its 30th anniversary. Authorities urge all residents and visitors to comply with the ban to contribute to a peaceful and secure environment during the week-long festivities.
