Mactan-Cebu Airport Enhances Security Protocols for Holy Week Travel Rush
The Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) has activated heightened security measures in anticipation of the Holy Week travel surge, implementing the initiative Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Semana Santa 2026 to ensure passenger safety and convenience. This strategic program, running from March 28 to April 5, 2026, aims to manage the expected influx of travelers during this peak period.
Proactive Inspections and Collaborative Efforts
Julius Neri Jr., General Manager and CEO of MCIAA, conducted a thorough inspection of help desks at the arrival and departure areas of Terminals 1 and 2 on Monday, March 30. In a statement to SunStar Cebu, Neri emphasized that the heightened security alert extends to all airport personnel, including the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Unit, fire officers, and medical staff. Our priority is to ensure that every passenger passing through Mactan-Cebu International Airport experiences a safe, seamless and comfortable journey during the Semana Santa travel period, he stated.
Neri further highlighted the collaborative approach, noting, We have put in place the necessary measures and are working closely with our partners to efficiently manage the increased passenger volume while upholding the highest standards of safety, security and service. This initiative aligns with the Department of Transportation's directive to maintain public safety and passenger convenience during high-traffic travel seasons.
Passenger Advisory and Operational Details
To facilitate a smooth travel experience, Neri advised passengers to check their itineraries regularly and stay updated with airline advisories. The enhanced security framework includes:
- Increased surveillance and monitoring at key airport points.
- Deployment of additional personnel to manage crowd control and assist travelers.
- Coordination with law enforcement and emergency services to address any incidents promptly.
This comprehensive plan underscores MCIAA's commitment to operational excellence during critical periods, ensuring that the airport remains a secure and efficient hub for domestic and international travelers. As Holy Week approaches, these measures are set to mitigate potential disruptions and enhance overall passenger satisfaction.
