In a significant anti-drug operation, agents from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 7, in collaboration with the Consolacion Municipal Police Station, conducted a successful raid that led to the confiscation of a substantial cache of illegal substances and paraphernalia. The operation took place on Thursday evening, January 29, 2026, at approximately 8:33 PM, in Upper Jugan, Barangay Jugan, within the municipality of Consolacion, Cebu.
Massive Haul of THC-Infused Vapes and Marijuana Leaves
During the raid, authorities seized a total of 77 electronic cigarettes or vape pens, all of which contained tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive compound found in marijuana. Additionally, five vape cartridges loaded with THC were recovered. The estimated street value of these items alone amounts to a staggering P206,000, highlighting the scale of the illicit trade disrupted by this operation.
Beyond the vapes, the seizure included 29 packages of dried marijuana leaves, weighing approximately 324 grams. These leaves have an estimated monetary value of P47,520, further contributing to the overall haul. Other evidence collected at the scene comprised buy-bust money, weighing scales, and a mobile phone, all of which are crucial for ongoing investigations and potential legal proceedings.
Suspect Identified as High-Volume Dealer
PDEA 7 Director Joel Plaza identified the primary target of the operation as an individual known by the alias "Jake," a 23-year-old resident of the same area in Upper Jugan. According to authorities, Jake is alleged to be a prolific dealer in the local drug trade. It is reported that he regularly sells between 300 to 500 vape units and around 500 grams of dried marijuana leaves on a weekly basis, indicating a steady and substantial operation.
Investigations reveal that his customer base primarily consists of call center agents, professionals, and students, suggesting a concerning penetration of these illegal substances into various segments of the community. This demographic targeting raises alarms about the accessibility and normalization of drug use among working individuals and youth in the region.
Evidence Processed for Legal Action
All confiscated items have been forwarded to the PDEA 7 Regional Office Laboratory for proper analysis and disposition. This step is essential to ensure that the evidence is handled according to legal standards, paving the way for potential charges against the suspect. The thorough processing underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to build strong cases against drug offenders and uphold public safety.
This operation is part of broader efforts by PDEA and local police units to combat the proliferation of illegal drugs, particularly those involving modern delivery methods like vapes, which can be discreet and appealing to younger users. The successful bust in Consolacion serves as a reminder of the ongoing vigilance required to address drug-related issues in Philippine communities.
