In a significant operation over the weekend, police in Nueva Ecija successfully recovered a cache of firearms, explosives, and ammunition in Barangay Bugnan, Gabaldon. The recovery underscores the ongoing efforts to combat insurgency and enhance public safety in the region.
Intelligence-Driven Operation
The operation was initiated based on critical information provided by a former member of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG), who voluntarily surrendered on March 12, 2026. The seized items from the operation include a diverse array of weapons and ammunition, highlighting the potential threat posed by the cache. Specifically, police recovered:
- Two unmarked .38 caliber revolvers
- Four rounds of .38 caliber ammunition

- One 9V battery (King Ever)
- Approximately 12 meters of flat cord
These items are indicative of the types of weaponry utilized by insurgent groups and pose a serious risk to community security if left unchecked.
Official Statements and Community Impact
Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., Chief of the Philippine National Police, emphasized the importance of such operations. He stated, "Operations like this demonstrate the importance of timely intelligence and community cooperation in preventing violence and saving lives." He added, "Kasabay ng aming mga hakbang, patuloy ang PNP sa pagbibigay-serbisyo at proteksyon sa ating mga kababayan." (Alongside our steps, the PNP continues to provide service and protection to our fellow citizens.)
This operation not only neutralizes immediate threats but also reinforces the role of community engagement in law enforcement efforts. By leveraging information from surrendered individuals, police can preemptively address security concerns and foster a safer environment for residents.
The successful recovery in Nueva Ecija serves as a reminder of the persistent challenges posed by insurgent groups and the critical need for vigilance and cooperation between authorities and the public.
