In a sweeping crackdown on criminal activities, Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 has apprehended approximately 500 individuals during intensive anti-criminality operations conducted in the final week of February. The regional police force disclosed detailed statistics highlighting the substantial impact of these efforts across Central Visayas.
Major Drug Busts and Arrests
According to official data released by PRO 7, authorities confiscated a total of 412.57 grams of suspected shabu, with an estimated street value of P2.8 million, alongside 22.15 grams of dried marijuana leaves. These seizures were part of a broader campaign that led to the arrest of 240 drug suspects, underscoring the police's aggressive stance against narcotics trafficking in the region.
Wanted Persons and Firearms Campaign
Simultaneously, PRO 7 intensified its pursuit of individuals with outstanding warrants, resulting in the capture of 169 wanted persons. Among those apprehended, 39 were classified as most wanted, indicating a targeted approach to high-profile cases. In a parallel initiative against loose firearms, law enforcement officers seized 59 firearms of various calibers, one grenade, and 122 rounds of ammunition, with 29 individuals taken into custody for related offenses.
Oplan Katok and Illegal Gambling Crackdown
The regional police also advanced its Oplan Katok operations, which focus on legitimate gun holders who have failed to renew their licenses. Under this program, such individuals are requested to temporarily surrender their firearms to ensure compliance with regulations. Additionally, in a crackdown on illegal gambling, PRO 7 apprehended 72 gamblers and confiscated P9,244 in gambling money, further demonstrating the comprehensive nature of the anti-crime drive.
Leadership and Public Engagement
Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, the chief of PRO 7, emphasized the significance of these results, stating, "These results reflect the dedication of our personnel in keeping communities safe. The seizure of illegal drugs and firearms, along with the arrests of criminals, demonstrates our proactive, intelligence-driven approach. PRO 7 will continue to intensify operations and work closely with the public to ensure a safer Region 7." He reiterated a call for public cooperation, urging residents to promptly report any suspicious or illegal activities to their nearest police station to maintain peace and order throughout Central Visayas.
