Cebu City Forms Task Force for Peaceful Undas Observance

The Cebu City Government has taken proactive measures to ensure a peaceful and orderly observance of Undas 2024 by establishing a special multi-agency task force dedicated to maintaining security and managing the expected influx of visitors to various cemeteries across the city.

Comprehensive Security Preparations

Mayor Michael Rama has signed Executive Order No. 135, creating the Task Force Undas 2024, which brings together various city departments and national agencies to coordinate security and public safety efforts during the traditional All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day observances.

The task force includes representatives from:

  • Cebu City Police Office (CCPO)
  • Traffic Enforcement Unit
  • Department of Public Services
  • Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office
  • City Health Department
  • Business Permit and Licensing Office

Enhanced Cemetery Security Measures

Police Colonel Ireneo B. Dalogdog, CCPO director, has outlined specific security protocols for major cemeteries including:

  • Calamba Cemetery: Comprehensive security coverage
  • Lorega San Miguel Cemetery: Enhanced police visibility
  • Carreta Cemetery: Coordinated security operations
  • Chinese Cemetery: Special attention to crowd management
  • Jewish Cemetery: Additional security personnel
  • Lahug Cemetery: Traffic and security coordination

Traffic Management Strategy

The Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) has developed a comprehensive traffic management plan to address the expected vehicle congestion around cemetery areas. CCTO head Raquel Arce emphasized that traffic enforcers will be strategically deployed to manage the flow of vehicles and prevent gridlock during peak visitation periods.

"Our traffic management team will be on full alert to ensure smooth vehicle flow and pedestrian safety in all cemetery vicinities," Arce stated.

Public Safety and Health Protocols

The task force will also focus on public health and sanitation measures, with the City Health Department establishing first aid stations and medical teams near major cemeteries. The Department of Public Services will ensure proper waste management and cleanliness throughout the observance period.

Mayor Rama urged the public to cooperate with authorities and follow established guidelines to ensure a safe and meaningful Undas celebration for all Cebu City residents and visitors.
