The City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTM-O) has unveiled a comprehensive one-way traffic scheme for major cemeteries in Davao City in preparation for the upcoming Undas 2023 observances. The strategic plan aims to ensure smooth traffic flow and enhanced public safety during the traditional cemetery visits from October 27 to November 3.
Key Cemetery Routes Affected
The traffic scheme will be implemented across several major burial grounds throughout the city:
- Davao Memorial Park - Magdalena Street will operate as a one-way route from Crossing Cabaguio Avenue to Crossing Elpidio Quirino Avenue
- Roman Catholic Cemetery - Access will be regulated via a one-way system from Crossing Elpidio Quirino Avenue to Crossing Cabaguio Avenue
- Japanese Cemetery - Traffic flow will be directed through a designated one-way pattern
- Jewish Cemetery - Similar one-way restrictions will be enforced
- Chinese Cemetery - Will operate under the coordinated traffic management plan
- Public Cemetery on Elpidio Quirino Avenue - Included in the comprehensive traffic scheme
Enhanced Safety Measures
CTTM-O head Engr. Dionisio Abude emphasized the importance of public cooperation during this period. "We are implementing these measures to prevent traffic congestion and ensure the safety of all cemetery visitors," Abude stated. "We encourage the public to plan their visits accordingly and follow the designated traffic routes."
Alternative Routes and Public Advisory
Motorists are advised to take note of the following alternative routes and important reminders:
- Heavy traffic is anticipated in cemetery vicinities, especially during peak visiting hours
- Commuters should consider using public transportation to reduce vehicle congestion
- Pedestrians are reminded to use designated walkways and follow crossing protocols
- Visitors are encouraged to schedule their cemetery trips during off-peak hours
The CTTM-O will deploy additional traffic enforcers to monitor compliance and assist motorists and pedestrians. The office also reminded the public that regular traffic rules remain in effect, including the prohibition of illegal parking and obstruction of traffic flow.
This annual traffic management initiative reflects the city government's proactive approach to maintaining order and safety during traditional observances while minimizing inconvenience to residents and visitors alike.
