Masantol Local Government Extends Financial Support to Fire Victims

The municipal government of Masantol has taken decisive action to support families impacted by a devastating fire in Barangay Bebe Anac. On Wednesday, Mayor Danilo Guintu personally oversaw the distribution of financial aid, providing P30,000 in cash assistance to each of the nine affected families. This initiative aims to help them recover from the loss of their homes, which were completely destroyed in the blaze that occurred last week.

Mayor's Statement and Ongoing Support Efforts

Mayor Guintu expressed deep empathy for the victims, stating, "We checked on them because we understand how difficult it is to lose a home in a fire. This modest assistance from the municipality is intended to help them begin rebuilding their houses." He emphasized the local government's commitment to ensuring the families receive comprehensive support during this challenging time.

In addition to the immediate cash aid, Mayor Guintu has directed the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) to actively assist the victims in securing further assistance from the provincial government. This coordinated effort is designed to provide a more robust recovery framework, addressing both short-term needs and long-term reconstruction.

Cause of the Fire and Current Situation

Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Paul Magat identified the cause of the fire as a leaking liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tank. This incident highlights the importance of regular safety checks and proper handling of household gas equipment to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

The affected families are currently staying at a designated evacuation center, where they are receiving temporary shelter and basic necessities. Despite the hardship, they have begun the process of rebuilding their homes, utilizing the financial aid provided by the local government to initiate construction and restore their livelihoods.

This response underscores Masantol's proactive approach to disaster management and community support, ensuring that victims are not left to cope alone in the aftermath of such emergencies.
