Pampanga Police Destroy 100 Illegal 'Boga' Firecrackers for New Year Safety
Pampanga Cracks Down on Boga, Modified Mufflers for Holidays

Authorities in Pampanga have taken decisive action to safeguard the public by destroying a cache of illegal pyrotechnics and vehicle parts, just days before the New Year's Eve revelry. The operations targeted banned homemade firecrackers and excessively loud motorcycle exhausts, both identified as threats to community safety and peace.

Mass Destruction of Illegal Firecrackers

In a clear demonstration of their enforcement drive, the Pampanga Police Provincial Office (PPPO) disposed of close to 100 units of 'boga' on Sunday, December 29. These powerful homemade noisemakers, often made from PVC pipes, were seized from individuals caught using them. The Philippine National Police (PNP) has strictly prohibited 'boga' and similar devices due to their potential to cause serious injuries, fires, and even fatalities.

PPPO Director Colonel Eugene Marcelo emphasized that the safety of the community is their paramount concern. "Safety is our priority. We want our community to enjoy the New Year celebrations without the risks associated with illegal and unsafe firecrackers," Col. Marcelo stated. The destruction event serves as both a preventive measure and a stark warning against the use of prohibited explosives.

Crackdown on Noisy Modified Mufflers in San Fernando

Parallel to the anti-firecracker campaign, the City of San Fernando launched its own initiative against noise pollution. The city's Public Order and Safety Coordinating Office (POSCO) destroyed a number of modified mufflers, commonly called "open pipes," that were confiscated in recent operations.

POSCO focal person Darius Hizon explained that their teams have intensified patrols across barangays, city roads, and major thoroughfares to apprehend motorists using these illegal modifications. The drive is a direct response to an order from Mayor Vilma Caluag.

"Ito po ay upon the order of our Mayor Vilma Caluag. Alam po natin na kasiyahan po ngayon Holiday, pero kung nakakaistorbo po ang mga ganitong maiingay na tambutso, ay hindi po dapat," Hizon said, underscoring that the holiday joy should not come at the expense of public disturbance.

A Unified Call for Compliance and Safety

The simultaneous operations by police and local government units send a unified message ahead of the festivities. Authorities are reminding all residents to strictly comply with existing rules and regulations governing firecrackers and vehicle modifications.

The goal is twofold: to prevent personal inconvenience, such as fines or confiscations, and, more importantly, to help ensure the safety and well-being of every individual and the broader community. By eliminating these hazards, officials hope to pave the way for a joyful, peaceful, and accident-free welcome to the New Year in Pampanga.
