Cebu City Motorcycle Stolen, Traded for P7,000 Worth of Shabu
Stolen Cebu motorcycle traded for shabu, police recover vehicle

Authorities in Cebu City have successfully recovered a motorcycle that was allegedly stolen and then traded for a substantial amount of illegal drugs. The incident, which was captured on CCTV, unfolded in the early hours of a Sunday in Barangay Banilad.

Theft Caught on Camera

The victim, identified by the alias Jiepaul, 33, a resident of Pelaez Extension, Barangay Santa Cruz, had attended a company Christmas party before proceeding to a drinking session with friends in Banilad. By around 2:30 AM on Sunday, December 21, 2025, he decided to drive home but fell asleep at the wheel along Governor Cuenco Avenue.

His motorcycle collided with iron railings, and with the help of witnesses, he was moved to the roadside. While he was unconscious, a young man approached, took the motorcycle key, and fled with the vehicle. This entire sequence was recorded by a nearby CCTV camera.

Police Investigation and Drug Trade Link

After the victim filed a police blotter and the video was uploaded, Police Major Eric Gingoyon, chief of the Mabolo Police Station, immediately launched an investigation. A crucial tip led police to discover that the stolen motorcycle had been traded for shabu (methamphetamine) worth P7,000 in B. Rodriguez Street.

This information directly led to the recovery of the motorcycle. Initial reports indicated an arrest, but police clarified they have the buyer of the stolen bike in custody. Investigators are now working to determine if the primary suspect is part of a larger motorcycle theft syndicate.

Charges Filed and Ongoing Probe

The Mabolo Police Station is preparing to file a robbery case against the still-at-large suspect. Meanwhile, the person who purchased the stolen motorcycle will face anti-fencing charges for dealing in known stolen property.

This case highlights a direct link between property crime and the illegal drug trade in the city. Police continue their pursuit of the suspect and a deeper investigation into his possible connections.
