The Philippine National Police in Eastern Visayas (PRO-8) has mobilized an impressive force of 3,900 police officers to ensure public safety during the upcoming Undas observances, implementing a comprehensive security strategy across the region.
Regional Security Deployment
Police Regional Office 8 director, Police Brigadier General Reynaldo Pawid, announced the massive deployment plan that will cover all six provinces of Eastern Visayas. The security operation, dubbed "Ligtas Undas 2024," will run from October 29 to November 4, with officers stationed at strategic locations throughout the region.
Key Security Focus Areas
The security measures will concentrate on several critical areas:
- Public cemeteries and memorial parks
- Transportation terminals and major highways
- Commercial centers and public markets
- Churches and places of worship
- Tourist destinations and convergence areas
Enhanced Police Visibility
PRO-8 has established Police Assistance Desks at all cemeteries and vital public areas to provide immediate assistance to visitors. The police force will maintain high visibility through foot patrols, mobile patrols, and strategic positioning of personnel.
"We want to ensure that our kababayans can observe Undas peacefully and safely with their families," General Pawid stated during the security briefing.
Traffic Management Strategy
Local police units have coordinated with transportation agencies to implement traffic rerouting schemes near major cemeteries. Police assistance centers will operate 24/7 to monitor the situation and respond promptly to any emergencies or security concerns.
Public Safety Reminders
Authorities are urging the public to cooperate with security personnel and follow basic safety protocols. Visitors are advised to secure their homes before traveling and avoid bringing valuable items to crowded areas.
The PRO-8 deployment represents one of the largest security operations for the All Saints' Day observance in recent years, demonstrating the police force's commitment to maintaining peace and order during this significant Filipino tradition.
