American National Found Deceased in Cebu City Rental Room
In a tragic incident, a 39-year-old foreign national was discovered dead inside his rented room on Mirasol Street, Barangay Capitol Site, Cebu City on Monday afternoon, March 23, 2026. The victim has been identified as Jacob John Dougherty, an American citizen originally from Vancouver, Washington.
Police Response and Initial Findings
The Abellana Police Station received a call from Barangay Capitol Site watchmen at approximately 3:00 PM, prompting an immediate response to the location. Upon arrival, Geoseppe G. Nalzaro, the team leader of the Philippine Red Cross Ambulance, confirmed that the victim was already deceased.
According to the investigation, the caretaker of the residence found the victim after he failed to respond to attempts to contact him. Concerned, the caretaker sought assistance from the barangay watchmen to forcibly open the door to the room.
No Evidence of Foul Play or Theft
Authorities have stated that there were no signs of forced entry on the door, indicating that the room was not broken into. The interior of the room was reported to be in an orderly condition, with no items missing, suggesting that theft was not a motive in this case.
Background and Last Known Activities
It was revealed that the victim was last seen alive on the evening of March 20. Neighbors mentioned that Dougherty had complained of stomach pain at that time but refused to be taken to a hospital for medical attention.
Further details from acquaintances indicate that the victim was known to consume alcoholic beverages and was a regular smoker. He had been renting at the location since December 2024, establishing a relatively long-term residence in the area.
Authorities are now awaiting coordination with the victim's family in the United States to proceed with the necessary arrangements and further investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death.
