In a significant crackdown on illegal drug activities, two workers from Argao, Cebu, were apprehended during a buy-bust operation conducted by authorities. The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Cebu Provincial Office, in collaboration with the Naga City Police Office, carried out the arrest at 9:55 PM on Friday, April 17, 2026, in Purok Diamond, Barangay East, Naga City.
Suspects Identified as Local Workers
The suspects have been identified by PDEA 7 Director Joel Plaza as alias Dodong, a 36-year-old welder, and alias Anthony, a 32-year-old auto mechanic. Both individuals are residents of Argao town. This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crimes in local communities.
Substantial Drug Haul Confiscated
During the operation, PDEA 7 operatives seized five packages of suspected shabu, weighing approximately 50 grams. The estimated average market value of the confiscated drugs is P340,000. In addition to the narcotics, authorities recovered two mobile phones, a sedan vehicle, buy-bust money, and other pieces of evidence, all of which are now under the custody of PDEA 7.
Month-Long Investigation Preceded Arrest
According to Leia Alcantara, information officer for PDEA 7, the agency had been conducting a case buildup for one month prior to the arrest. This investigation was initiated after a concerned citizen reported the illegal activities of the two suspects to the PDEA office. The tip-off played a crucial role in enabling law enforcement to monitor and eventually apprehend the individuals.
Alleged Drug Distribution Network
It is alleged that the suspects were capable of selling 50 grams of shabu per week. Their distribution area reportedly included Argao town and neighboring municipalities and cities. This suggests a potentially wider network of drug trafficking in the region, raising concerns about public safety and community health.
Criminal Histories and Legal Charges
Alias Dodong has a prior arrest record from 2016 for similar illegal drug charges, indicating a pattern of criminal behavior. In contrast, alias Anthony is considered a new drug personality, marking his first known involvement in such activities. Both suspects now face charges for violations under Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Legal proceedings are being prepared to ensure justice is served.
