Bacolod City Launches Fuel Assistance Program for Tricycle Drivers

In a significant move to support local transport workers, Bacolod City has commenced the distribution of fuel assistance to its tricycle drivers. On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at least 3,000 out of 9,617 qualified drivers received P5,000 each during the first day of payouts. The program, which aims to alleviate financial burdens, is being implemented across four designated venues in the city.

Coordinated Effort Between Government Agencies

Mayor Greg Gasataya highlighted that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through its Negros Island Region office, is leading the distribution in close coordination with the City Government. This collaboration ensures that the assistance reaches the intended beneficiaries efficiently and transparently.

The payout locations include the Bacolod City College Activity Center, Bacolod City National High School Arts Center, SM City Bacolod, and Ayala Malls Capitol Central. Additionally, a help desk has been established at the Bacolod City Government Center to address any inquiries from the public or beneficiaries.

Ensuring Smooth Implementation and Future Plans

Mayor Gasataya emphasized that the city has mobilized all necessary manpower and resources to guarantee the program's smooth execution. "We have prepared the manpower, all the support, and everything else needed to ensure the proper implementation of this program," he stated. The list of beneficiaries has been publicly posted on the official Facebook pages of Mayor Gasataya, the Bacolod City Communications Office, and Serbisyo Patrol to maintain transparency.

Looking ahead, Gasataya confirmed that after tricycle drivers, other public transport sectors will be prioritized for similar assistance. "We hope that this assistance will somehow help our tricycle drivers. We also assure that after the tricycle drivers, other public transport workers will definitely be next in line to receive assistance from the government," he added.

Operational Details and Gratitude

The distribution is scheduled to conclude on April 10, with payouts being conducted in alphabetical order to ensure orderly operations and minimize disruptions to tricycle services across various barangays. This systematic approach aims to facilitate a seamless process for all involved parties.

Mayor Gasataya also expressed his gratitude to the National Government for providing the assistance, acknowledging the broader support system that enables such initiatives to benefit the local community. The program underscores a commitment to addressing the needs of essential transport workers in Bacolod City.
