Bataan Police Seize P1.68 Million in Smuggled Cigarettes in Orion Operation
Authorities in Bataan have successfully intercepted a significant shipment of smuggled cigarettes valued at approximately P1.68 million during a meticulously planned buy-bust operation. The seizure underscores ongoing efforts to combat illegal trade and enforce tax regulations in the region.
Coordinated Law Enforcement Effort
The operation was conducted by the Bataan Provincial Intelligence Unit of the Bataan Police Provincial Office, working in close coordination with the Orion Municipal Police Station and the Bureau of Customs. It took place on March 21, 2026, in Sitio Araro, Barangay San Vicente, Orion town, targeting illicit activities in the area.
Details of the Confiscated Goods
During the raid, law enforcement personnel confiscated a substantial quantity of smuggled cigarettes. The haul included seven master case boxes of RGD cigarettes and twenty master case boxes of Modern cigarettes. The total estimated value of these items amounts to P1,687,500, highlighting the scale of the illegal operation.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
A 58-year-old woman was apprehended at the scene as part of the operation. Authorities are now preparing to file criminal complaints against the suspect for violations of Republic Act 8424, commonly known as the Tax Reform Act of 1997. This law imposes strict penalties for tax evasion and smuggling activities, aiming to protect government revenue and public health.
