Cebu Police Conduct Intensive Week-Long Operation, Resulting in Mass Arrests and Drug Seizures
In a significant law enforcement effort, the Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) has reported the arrest of 1,425 individuals for violating city ordinances, alongside the confiscation of illegal drugs valued at P683,382. This operation spanned from March 9 to March 15, 2026, highlighting a robust crackdown on criminal activities in the region.
Drug Busts and Arrests in Detail
According to a report by Police Colonel Abubakar Mangelen Jr., chief of the CPPO, authorities conducted 43 operations targeting drug-related offenses. These efforts led to the apprehension of 57 persons and the seizure of 100.44 grams of shabu and 3.25 grams of marijuana. The operations underscore the police's commitment to combating the illegal drug trade, which remains a persistent challenge in many areas.
Enforcement of City Ordinances and Financial Penalties
The enforcement of city ordinances accounted for the highest number of arrests during this period. From these violations, the government collected fines totaling P778,500 from the 1,425 individuals detained. This aspect of the operation demonstrates a dual focus on both criminal and regulatory infractions, aiming to maintain public order and generate revenue for municipal coffers.
Capture of Wanted Persons and Weapons Recovery
In addition to the ordinance violations, the CPPO successfully captured 50 wanted persons, including six classified as most wanted. The operation also resulted in the seizure of five firearms and one explosive device, with seven weapons voluntarily surrendered to the police. These achievements reflect a comprehensive approach to enhancing community safety by removing dangerous elements from the streets.
Illegal Gambling Crackdown
On the front of illegal gambling, police conducted 13 operations that led to the arrest of 19 gamblers. During these raids, authorities confiscated P3,643 in betting money. This part of the crackdown targets another facet of illicit activities, contributing to the overall reduction of crime in Cebu.
