Drunk Motorcycle Driver Arrested for Attempted Arson in Liloan, Cebu
A habal-habal driver was apprehended after attempting to set fire to a rival's residence in Liloan, Cebu, in the early hours of Monday, April 6, 2026. The incident, which stemmed from a long-standing feud over a pet dog, occurred at Purok San Francisco 2, Sityo Tabok Lamac, Barangay Yati, Liloan City.
Details of the Incident
The suspect, identified as Jeffrey Guidon Quijano, a 35-year-old single resident of the area, was reportedly intoxicated during the event. According to Police Chief Master Sgt. Arni Goc-ong, the investigating officer from Liloan Police Station, Quijano had been drinking with friends prior to the attack. At approximately 12:59 a.m., he constructed a Molotov cocktail using a wine bottle, gasoline, and a wick, then hurled it towards the home of his rival, Arnold Agacita, aged 54.
Fortunately, the makeshift explosive device missed its intended target and landed on a neighboring house instead. The alert homeowner noticed the fire and quickly extinguished it, preventing significant damage. Following this, neighbors pursued Quijano and managed to capture him temporarily. However, he brandished a knife and threatened to stab them, leading to his release.
Arrest and Charges
Quijano returned to the scene at around 4:00 a.m., where neighbors once again assisted in his capture and handed him over to responding police officers. The victim, Arnold Agacita, had earlier sought help from authorities regarding the escalating conflict. Police are preparing charges of attempted arson and concealing a deadly weapon against Quijano. This case highlights the dangers of alcohol-fueled violence and ongoing neighborhood disputes in the community.
