Escalante City, Police, and Army Unite to Condemn Fatal Incident, Pledge Swift Justice
The City Government of Escalante, in a powerful joint effort with the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region and the Philippine Army, has issued a strong condemnation of a recent killing incident in Barangay Pinapugasan, Escalante. This unified stance underscores a firm commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region.
Community Assembly Reassures Residents Amidst Violence
In response to the tragic event, authorities organized a community assembly on March 4, 2026, in Barangay Pinapugasan. This gathering aimed to directly address residents' fears and reinforce their safety. The activity was meticulously supervised by PRO-NIR, with coordination from the Escalante City Police Station and Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office, working closely alongside the City Government and military forces to ensure a visible and immediate response to community concerns.
Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, chief of the PRO-NIR Public Information Office, highlighted that the assembly was led by key figures including Escalante City Mayor Melecio Yap, Lieutenant Colonel Florendo Fajardo as officer-in-charge of the Escalante City Police Station, Lieutenant Colonel Serafin Reyes from the 79th Infantry Battalion, Barangay Pinapugasan chieftain Edgar Rapana, and representatives from the education sector and local residents.
Clear Message Against Violence and Promise of Justice
During the assembly, leaders delivered a clear and unified message condemning the violence and emphasizing that justice will be served without compromise. Malong stated that they assured the community the ongoing investigation into the murder cases of Eduardo Catipay and Jerry Lapus, handled by the Special Investigation Team, is thorough and comprehensive. Authorities vowed that all responsible individuals will face the full force of the law, leaving no room for impunity.
Malong also urged residents to remain vigilant, cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies, and actively participate in efforts to maintain peace and order within their community. This call to action emphasizes the collective responsibility in safeguarding societal harmony.
