Mayor Treñas Directs Immediate Police Action in La Paz Stabbing Case
Mayor Raisa Treñas of Iloilo City has issued a firm directive to the Iloilo City Police Office (Icpo) to swiftly arrest and file appropriate charges against the individuals involved in a recent stabbing incident in Barangay San Isidro, La Paz. The mayor convened a critical meeting on Monday, March 23, 2026, with Icpo Director Police Colonel Wilbert Parilla and various station commanders to receive updates and provide clear instructions on handling the case.
Zero Tolerance for Drug-Related Violence
During the meeting, Mayor Treñas expressed deep disappointment over preliminary reports suggesting that illegal drugs may have been the motive behind the violent crime. "We do not tolerate the drug trade in Iloilo City. We will not allow violence to take root in our communities," she stated emphatically. The mayor highlighted that several barangays have recently been declared drug-cleared by the Iloilo City Anti-Drug Abuse Council, and preserving these achievements remains a top priority for the City Government.
Public safety continues to be one of the administration's foremost concerns, according to Treñas. To bolster community security, she announced that two new Iloilo City Action and Resilience (ICare) Centers will open next month. These centers aim to expand services for residents and significantly enhance police visibility across local neighborhoods.
Progress in Esplanade Vandalism Investigation
In related developments, the Icpo reported notable progress in the investigation of a vandalism incident at the Iloilo Esplanade. Police authorities have already summoned gang leaders for questioning, and several persons of interest are now under close monitoring as part of the ongoing probe.
City Government Initiatives for Efficiency and Safety
Meanwhile, the City Government has implemented a strategic initiative to maintain public safety while reducing electricity consumption. Personnel typically assigned to administrative duties are currently assisting in police visibility and traffic management during peak hours—from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. This measure ensures a continued security presence in the community while promoting energy efficiency.
Mayor Treñas's actions underscore a committed approach to addressing crime and upholding law and order in Iloilo City, with a clear focus on eradicating drug-related activities and enhancing overall public safety.
