President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday skipped two scheduled engagements to monitor a rally along EDSA near the People Power Monument in Quezon City, according to the Presidential Communications Office.
Inauguration Speech Delivered by Transport Official
Marcos was originally set to attend the inauguration of the state-of-the-art marine cleanup vessel MV Nilad at South Harbor in Port Area. However, his speech for the ceremony was delivered instead by Transportation Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez.
Foreign Correspondents Luncheon Also Canceled
Presidential Communications Office Acting Secretary Dave Gomez confirmed that Marcos would also no longer attend the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines Presidential Luncheon at Makati Shangri-La, scheduled for Tuesday noon. Gomez stated that the President was closely monitoring developments related to the EDSA rally.
Traffic Disruptions Reported
Reports indicated that the protest, staged by unidentified groups near the People Power Monument, caused heavy traffic along EDSA. Despite the cancellations, Gomez assured that the President's scheduled activities at Malacañan Palace would proceed as planned.
